Effective First Aid in the Workplace

Delivering OFQUAL™ And SQA™ regulated courses through ITC First™, we provide awards and qualifications for respective businesses. First aid is an extremely important role in any company, and it is required by law that there is a trained first aider on your premises.

Meeting HSE Regulations

Employers need to provide first aid care on their premises for all staff. They have a duty of care towards all visitors and users of their facilities. The HSE™ recommends that all businesses have a first aider on-site. The amount of training that you need depends on your business.

The law states that employers are required to undertake a risk assessment of their workplace to decide which course to take. These courses are applicable for most businesses:

  • Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) – Used for employees in low-risk workplaces. These include offices, shops, and call centres. This is a six-hour (1-day) award.
  • First Aid at Work (FAW) – Used for remote or hazardous environments. These include light industry, construction, and food processing. This is an 18-hour (3-day) award.

Occasionally certain businesses need a specific training course depending on their situation. Different work sectors have separate regulations. With paediatric and outdoor first aid options, we cover all bases.

Additional Advice

The HSE recommends an annual three-hour refresher course for all employees that are responsible for first aid. Certain courses that we offer have dual certification, which enables you to find a cost-effective solution for your business. No matter the venue, we are happy to provide an option that suits you. Our team offer open sessions and in-house options that are specifically tailored to your business.
